Cozy Pregnancy Announcement Photos at Home

Family

There’s something so special about capturing the excitement of a growing family, and an at-home pregnancy announcement photo session is the perfect way to do it! Cozy, intimate, and filled with personal touches, these sessions allow couples (and siblings or pets!) to celebrate this milestone in a space that truly feels like them.

I recently got to shoot Emily and her Fiancé Ali at their home in Nashville to celebrate their pregnancy! As soon-to-be first-time parents, it was so easy to capture their joy. We even got lucky with a snow day, so we were able to get some stunning outdoor shots of the beautiful, natural landscape.

Whether it’s snuggling on the couch, posing outdoors, or sharing a joyful moment in the nursery-to-be, at-home pregnancy announcements create memories that will last a lifetime. Check out Emily and Ali’s session to get some inspiration for your own pregnancy photo shoot!

Capturing First-Time Parents’ Joy

Emily and Ali are pregnant with their first child, so this is a huge milestone for them! Throughout our photo session, it was so easy to capture their pure joy both in our posed photos and some candid.

We shot a variety of photos of them embracing each other and showing off their love and excitement. Inside their Nashville home, they felt comfortable and cozy, which made for really natural photos.

For their announcements to family and friends, we also captured photos of them holding up their ultrasound as well as a super cute Ohio State onesie (their alma mater!).

When I shoot pregnancy photos, I also love to get a few of mom on her own, so I made sure to capture some of Emily smiling big and holding her growing belly.

Taking Advantage of the Winter Snow

Like I mentioned above, for their pregnancy announcement photos, we got lucky with a snow day! I know some couples might not think a photoshoot outside would be a good idea, but the snow ends up offering an excellent backdrop that makes you and your partner really pop.

Emily and Ali had a big backyard that they posed in for a little bit, and we all loved the wooded background. Especially since we were at their home, the cold wasn’t an issue! We were able to get a good variety of outdoor shots and then head back inside before anyone got too cold.

Plus, a winter backdrop for photos is perfect because it looks great no matter what you’re wearing. For example, Emily’s colorful dress really popped against the snow. But if you were doing a winter shoot and wanted to wear neutrals, it would make for a classic, timeless look as well.

Why I Love Pregnancy Announcement Photos at Home

If you’re looking into pregnancy announcement photos, your home might be the best spot! Just like Emily and Ali, it’s where you feel the most comfortable–and it’s also where you’ll be with your new baby. Capturing you and your partner there is a great way to commemorate your pregnancy and share your excitement in the most natural, organic way.

There’s also a large variety of photos that we can take at home, such as:

  • Photos in the kitchen, preparing a meal or baking
  • Lounging around in your family room or living room
  • Posing with your ultrasound in the baby’s nursery
  • Posing outside on your porch or in your yard

Your pregnancy photos at home will be completely unique and even more meaningful. Even if you move eventually, it’ll be sentimental to have photos of where you lived when you got pregnant and raised your little one.

Though this photoshoot was just with Emily and Ali, it’s also a great option for parents who already have kids or pets. With an at-home shoot, you can easily include everyone and take advantage of more intimate, cozy photos.

Planning Your Own Pregnancy Announcement Photo Session

If you’re looking into pregnancy announcement photos, I’d love to work with you! We can find the best setting and vibe to make sure you have memories that you’ll cherish forever.

As you’re planning, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Choose the right time – They’re your pregnancy photos, so there really is no “right” time. But, anywhere from 28-34 weeks is great if you want that baby bump to shine. If you prefer early-stage photos for an announcement, 12-20 weeks is around when most couples are ready to share the news.
  • Consider theme or style – Some couples opt for cozy, laid-back photos, while others love more elegant or fancy photos to commemorate their pregnancy. You can’t go wrong with whatever style you choose, but having a vision in mind will help you determine location, color palette, and outfits. I’m happy to help brainstorm with you too!
  • Choose a location – For location, an at-home shoot like Emily and Ali’s is great for those more cozy, intimate photos. But a location like the historic Belle Meade Plantation or Cheekwood in Nashville can also be excellent for a more elegant photoshoot.
  • Plan your outfits – When you’re planning your outfits, it’s always best to coordinate instead of matching. For example, Emily and Ali looked great with a pop up color for Emily and a more neutral palette for Ali.
  • Prep for both posed and candid photos – Not everyone is comfortable with having their photos taken, and that’s ok! I’ll make sure you feel as natural as possible. You can expect both posed and candid photos to get a good variety.

How to Book Your Pregnancy Photo Session

As a family photographer, I love working with clients on both pregnancy announcements and newborn photos once the baby is here! My process always includes a call so we can discuss the package that’s best for you, then we’ll secure your photoshoot date as well as a backup date in case of bad weather. From there, I’ll help you plan and prepare to make sure your photos match your vision!
