There’s something so special about photographing first-time parents during those early newborn days. Everything is brand new, and suddenly this tiny little person has completely changed your world. Baby Charlie’s session was such a sweet example of why I love newborn photography in Nashville and documenting these first days together at home.

Now let me take you inside Baby Charlie’s beautiful summer newborn session in Nashville.

There’s something so meaningful about photographing a newborn at home. You don’t have to pack a diaper bag, get everyone out the door, or worry about how your baby will do somewhere unfamiliar. Instead, I come to you.
For first-time parents especially, this makes the experience feel so much more relaxed. Charlie’s parents could simply enjoy being together in the nursery they’d lovingly prepared for him while we captured cuddles, smiles, and all those tiny newborn details.
That connection is what I love most about newborn photography in Nashville. I want your photos to remind you not only of how tiny your baby was, but how it felt to hold and love them during those first sweet weeks.
While I’ll always capture photographs of your baby alone, my approach to newborn photography in Nashville centers on connection. As first-time parents, Charlie’s mom and dad were completely smitten with him, and those natural interactions made some of the sweetest images.
We photographed Mom cuddling Charlie against her chest in the nursery chair, Dad cradling him in his arms, and the three of them sitting together on the floor near his crib. You don’t need elaborate props or perfectly posed setups; the photographs you’ll treasure most are often the simple moments of loving your new baby.

I always love creating photographs that show the special connection between a mom and her newborn.
During Charlie’s session, we used the beautiful chair in his nursery for some sweet portraits of Mom and Charlie together. The light coming through the window created a bright, soft setting, and I love how naturally happy she looks while cuddling him. These photographs don’t need to feel overly posed.
I’ll give you direction so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands or where to look, but I also leave room for the natural moments to happen. A smile, a snuggle, or the way you instinctively support your baby’s tiny head can tell so much of the story.
That combination of gentle guidance and genuine interaction is one of my favorite parts of photographing newborn families.

I always want Dad to have photographs that show his individual relationship with the baby, too.
One of my favorite images from Charlie’s session is his dad standing in the nursery and cradling him in his arms. Charlie looks so tiny against him, which is one of those details that’ll be hard to believe a few years from now. Babies grow unbelievably fast.
That’s why I encourage both parents to get into the photographs, even if you’re tired or don’t necessarily feel camera-ready. Your baby isn’t going to look back at these images and think about whether everything was perfect. They’re going to see how loved they were from the very beginning. And that’s worth documenting.

Of course, we also made time for Charlie all by himself. Look at that hair!
One reason I love lifestyle newborn photography in Nashville is getting to document the little characteristics that make your baby uniquely yours. Their hair, tiny fingers, little toes, expressions, sleepy stretches, and all those other details change so quickly.
For Charlie’s individual portraits, we kept things simple and photographed him on the soft green crib sheet in his nursery. That simplicity kept all the attention exactly where it belonged: on him. He even gave us those beautiful wide-open newborn eyes for some of his portraits.
These are the kinds of images that help parents remember just how unbelievably small their baby once was.
Yes, your dog can absolutely be part of your newborn session!
At the very end of Charlie’s session, we included the family dog in a few family photographs, and I’m so glad we did. Pets are family, and it’s often a beautiful part of the story when a new baby comes home. We kept things relaxed and let the dog lead, which resulted in some of the most natural, heartfelt images.
That’s one of the best parts of an in-home newborn session: your pet is already comfortable in their own space, so we can include them in a way that feels easy and natural.

Charlie’s summer newborn session was filled with beautiful natural light, giving his gallery a bright and airy feel.
For in-home sessions, we don’t need to photograph your entire house. I’ll look for one or two spaces with the best light and use them in different ways to create variety. Charlie’s nursery gave us plenty of options, from the crib and chair to the floor and window light.
If you’re considering newborn photography in Nashville, you don’t need a picture-perfect home or an outdoor setting. Some of the most meaningful newborn photographs can happen right where your everyday family life is unfolding.
You don’t need a perfectly styled home, a sleeping baby, or every detail figured out before your session. Choose comfortable, coordinating outfits and let the morning move at your baby’s pace. During your session, we can pause anytime for feeding, diaper changes, soothing, or extra cuddles.
That’s one of the things I love most about in-home newborn photography in Nashville: instead of expecting your baby to follow a schedule, we let the session naturally unfold around your family.

If you’re expecting and looking for newborn photography in Nashville, I’d love to help you document this sweet season in a relaxed, natural way, right at home with the people, pets, and little details that make this time yours.
