3 reasons why you should consider a mini-session for your next family photo session

Ahhh! I’m so excited to be hitting “publish” on this blog because I LOVE mini-sessions! By now, you’ve probably seen that I’ve announced my 2025 Mini Session dates. I always love when I get to share these announcements because I just love these sessions. Honestly, when I first started as a photographer here in Nashville, I shied away from mini-sessions because I didn’t think they were worth my time. But as I’ve grown as a photographer – and a mom to two littles – I’ve realized how necessary they are. And now, I love being able to offer them throughout the year for my clients! Today, I thought it would be fun to talk more about my mini-sessions and why I love them so much. If you want to update your family photos this year (which you absolutely should!), consider a mini-session. And here’s why:

Mini sessions are great for younger kids.

The reality is that no young kid is going to be “perfectly behaved” for 60-90 minutes. So a lot of times, families come out of “full-length” sessions feeling exhausted and frustrated. I get it because I’ve been there. When you have young kids, being able to do something quickly is a blessing. When you want to update your family photo or grab one nice photo for the Christmas card, a mini-session is a great option. Especially with young kids – because these are shorter time frames. We’re more likely to keep their attention focused if we only have to do it for 15-20 minutes. Let’s be honest! So if you have little ones, consider a mini-session for everyone’s experience.

Mini sessions are great if you have a smaller budget.

If you want to update your family portraits, but maybe have a smaller budget – mini-sessions can be a great cost-effective idea. Since they’re shorter sessions, you receive 10 images and we spend 20 minutes together. It’s a super-easy way to update those portraits without breaking the bank. I love being able to provide this option to my clients because I believe we should all be able to have beautiful portraits of our families, no matter the budget! (I even offer my clients the option to receive the entire gallery if they enjoy all the photos because let’s be honest, sometimes picking only 10 photos is hard!)

Mini sessions are a fun way to have portraits at really special locations.

One of my favorite things about mini-sessions is that I get to spend time photographing families at some beautiful spots in Nashville. Sometimes, these are places we might not go otherwise for a full-length session! I love using the War Memorial, Menkveld Farms, East Nashville Greenhouse, and a Christmas tree farm. There’s something special about being able to capture portraits in these spots for my clients once a year!
