As the world shakes off winter and steps into warmer days, there is something magical about this season that makes spring family photos feel so full of life. The soft sunlight, gentle breezes, colorful blooms, and renewed energy make spring one of the most meaningful times to update your family portraits. Whether you want to finally get yourself in the frame, celebrate a new chapter for your family, or gift a session for Mother’s Day, spring offers the perfect environment for natural, joyful images.
Hi, I’m Dolly. Every session I photograph is more than a set of poses or a time slot on the calendar. It is a small piece of your family’s story, captured with intention, care, and creativity. When you book spring family photos with me, I want you to feel comfortable, confident, and excited about the experience.
If you are ready to bring your vision to life, explore my portfolio and reserve your session now. I cannot wait to meet your family, guide you gently through the process, and create images that feel honest, warm, and full of connection.

Spring is a season filled with meaning, and that spirit carries beautifully into your spring family photos. After months of gray skies and chilly days, nature begins to open up again. Trees bud with soft greens, flowers return in pinks, whites, and blues, and golden light lingers just a little longer in the evenings.
This atmosphere creates the perfect recipe for stunning portraits. Kids can explore and play without shivering or sweating. Parents feel lighter and more refreshed. Families naturally lean into the joy of being outdoors again. Every bit of that energy translates into your images.
Spring is also a popular time for families who want portraits for Mother’s Day gifts or updated frames around the house. Many parents use this season as a chance to reflect on their family’s growth and changes. Whether your children are toddlers or teenagers or somewhere in between, spring offers a moment to pause and celebrate who you are right now.
Spring mini sessions are intentionally designed to provide a relaxed, simplified experience without sacrificing quality. These sessions are shorter than full family sessions, yet they still allow time for natural interaction, playful prompts, and authentic moments.
When you book a spring mini session, you can typically expect:
Mini sessions are perfect for families who want updated portraits without committing to a full hour. They are also great for families with younger children who thrive with shorter bursts of attention. The goal is simple. It helps you feel relaxed, captures your family as you truly are, and gives you images that will make you smile for years to come.
*One important thing to note about Mini Sessions: I’ll be the one pre-selecting the date and location for these sessions.

The location you choose plays a huge role in the style and mood of your spring family photos. Spring offers a wide variety of beautiful settings that feel vibrant without overwhelming the subjects in the frame.
Popular spring locations include:
These areas offer a dreamy, romantic atmosphere. Soft petals create a gentle frame around your family, and the colors add a natural pop without being too bold. A Nashville location I love shooting at that offers this type of look is usually the Ellington Ag Center.
If you prefer a clean, airy look, wide-open fields are perfect. Kids can run and explore, and the soft greens of spring pair beautifully with neutral or pastel outfits. A Nashville location I love shooting at that offers this type of look is Ravenswood Mansion.
Gardens add texture and dimension to your spring family photos. Winding paths, trimmed hedges, and seasonal flowers give your images a classic, timeless feel. The most popular space in Nashville for a more garden feel is Cheekwood. I offer Cheekwood-exclusive family packages (NOT Mini Sessions). Not all spring portraits need to be outdoors. If your home has beautiful light or meaningful spaces, an indoor session can be just as powerful. These images feel cozy and intimate, and they capture your family in an authentic way.
When choosing your location, think about the environment where your family feels most relaxed. The more comfortable you are, the more natural your photos will feel.

Wardrobe plays a key role in creating cohesive, polished spring family photos. Spring colors (but think softer colors, NOT bright pastel colors) tend to be soft and flattering, blending beautifully with outdoor scenery.
Here are some helpful wardrobe tips:
Soft neutrals like cream, sage, blush, beige, soft blue, and muted gray always photograph well in spring. These tones complement blooming backgrounds without competing for attention.
Bright colors can overpower your images and reflect unwanted tones onto your skin. Large patterns can also distract from your family’s expressions and connection.
Spring weather can be unpredictable. Light layers such as cardigans, linen jackets, thin sweaters, or flowy dresses help you stay comfortable and add variety to your wardrobe.
Your spring family photos will feel more elevated when each person’s outfit complements the overall color palette rather than matching identically. Choose two or three main tones and build outfits around them.
You will be moving, walking, and playing during your session. Clothes that fit well and allow movement help everyone feel more confident and at ease.
When in doubt, I’m always happy to offer personalized styling suggestions. Together, we can create a look that feels like your family and photographs beautifully.
Preparation is the secret to a smooth, enjoyable session. The more relaxed you feel going in, the more natural your spring family photos will look.
Set outfits aside a few days early. If needed, try them on to make sure everything fits comfortably and complements your chosen color palette.
Ensure little ones arrive well-rested and fed. Bring along simple comforts such as a favorite toy, a hairbrush, wipes, or a small snack that will not stain clothes. Also, keep their favorite playlist on hand so that they can listen to some tunes while they are photographed!
Spring locations can be busy. Arriving early helps you settle in, breathe, and get comfortable before stepping in front of the camera.
Real smiles, genuine laughter, and natural interactions always create the best spring family photos. Embrace the moment, even if your kids get a little silly or your hair has a mind of its own.
My approach focuses on gentle prompts rather than stiff posing. Your job is to enjoy your family. My job is to capture the beautiful, heartfelt moments that unfold naturally.

Spring is one of the most popular seasons for family portraits, and sessions tend to fill quickly due to limited bloom periods and ideal weather windows. Booking early ensures you get a date and time that works best for your family.

Your spring session is more than a collection of photos. It is a celebration of your family’s story during a season filled with light, color, and possibility. Let’s start planning your session and create images that you will cherish for years to come.
Mini Sessions are intentionally scheduled on specific dates—and that’s by design. To serve my families well and run a sustainable, organized business, mini sessions are offered only on pre-selected days throughout the year.
Mini Sessions require careful planning, location coordination, and a tightly structured schedule so everything runs smoothly (and stress-free—for you and for me). Because of this, I’m unable to offer mini sessions on custom dates or “fit one in” outside of those scheduled times.
If you’re hoping to work with me specifically for a Mini Session, you’ll need to reserve a date on the announced schedule. If those dates don’t work for your family, a Full Session would be the best option, as it allows for flexible scheduling and a more customized experience.
This structure allows me to give every family the level of care, preparation, and attention they deserve—without overextending or compromising the quality of your experience. In short: it’s not about being rigid, it’s about being intentional (and wise) with my time so I can continue serving families well.
