One of my favorite things about mini sessions is getting to create a different experience depending on the season and location. Floral minis are especially fun because so much of the beauty is already there. Perry Family Farm provided such a lovely setting for these Nashville summer mini sessions. The flowers brought beautiful color and texture to the photographs while still allowing each family to be the main focus.

Instead of an elaborate setup or lots of props, we could use the farm’s natural beauty as our backdrop. That gave families space to cuddle, laugh, interact, and enjoy being together while I documented it all. As a Nashville family photographer, I’m always looking for locations that photograph beautifully while still allowing families to feel comfortable and natural. Perry Family Farm was such a fun place to create these summer memories.

Every Family Brings Something Different to Their Session

One thing I loved about these floral minis was seeing how different each session felt, even though everyone was photographed at the same location. That’s because family photography isn’t about recreating the same poses over and over. It’s about paying attention to the personalities and relationships happening right in front of me.

Some children want to cuddle with Mom and Dad, while others are ready to explore, giggle, or show off their personalities. Some families naturally fall into sweet, quiet moments together, while others bring lots of energy and laughter. One of the sweetest surprises from these sessions was getting to photograph a family visiting Nashville all the way from California!

They were in Tennessee for vacation and decided to book family photographs while they were here. I loved that idea because photographs can become such a meaningful souvenir from a family trip. Instead of bringing home another object that might eventually get tucked away, you have photographs documenting what your family looked and felt like during that adventure.

I’m not expecting them to stand still and smile at the camera the entire time. Some of my favorite photographs happen when kids are simply being kids.

Instead, think about coordinating colors and textures rather than putting everyone in identical outfits. Soft neutrals, creams, muted blues, gentle greens, subtle patterns, and complementary colors can photograph beautifully against a floral backdrop. Most importantly, choose clothing that’s comfortable and feels like your family.
