Every maternity session tells its own unique chapter in a family’s story. Some are soft and sentimental, some are filled with laughter, and some unfold with the sweetest little moments that remind you just how magical this season really is. This beautiful session, captured in the clean, airy space at A Dose of Libras Studios and the sunlit paths of Ellington Agricultural Center, was a perfect blend of all of the above. It is a wonderful example of how Nashville maternity photos can feel both timeless and deeply personal.
As a Nashville maternity and family photographer, nothing brings me more joy than documenting families as they grow. This session was especially meaningful because I had previously photographed this couple’s first maternity session and later their newborn portraits with their daughter. Getting to see them again and celebrate the upcoming arrival of their baby boy made this session feel like a full circle moment.
Hi! I am Dolly. Your maternity session is not just a photoshoot. It is the celebration of a moment you will never relive in quite the same way. If you are ready to document this chapter with warmth, intention, and heart, you can explore my maternity photography style and reserve your session here. I cannot wait to help you feel confident and at ease in front of the camera while capturing images that beautifully reflect your growing family.

Working with a family more than once is one of the biggest compliments I can receive. Rachel and Tommy first stepped in front of my camera when they were expecting their daughter, and I later had the honor of capturing her newborn portraits. Watching their family grow literally, through my lens, has been one of those full-circle moments that feels incredibly rewarding.
When they reached out to share that they were expecting their second baby, I couldn’t wait to help create a session that felt meaningful, comfortable, and beautiful for this new stage of their family story. Their little girl, now a smiley and energetic toddler, added so much personality to the session, too. Her excitement about becoming a big sister was contagious and became a sweet thread woven throughout the images.
We began the session at A Dose of Libras Studios, a space that offers the perfect clean canvas for maternity and family portraits. The soft, light-filled environment allowed the family’s outfits, classic blues, whites, and subtle textures, to stand out beautifully. Studio sessions create a quiet, peaceful atmosphere where emotional connection is the focal point.
Inside the studio, we focused on classic family portraits as well as documenting some tender one-on-one moments between each parent. The simplicity of the studio environment beautifully highlighted Rachel’s glowing maternity style and the sweet expressions radiating from each family member.
One of the most heartwarming moments happened as their daughter held up a long strip of ultrasound images so curious, so proud, and so fully embracing the idea of becoming a big sister. The photo of her studying those sonogram images feels like the perfect bridge between the past and the future. It’s these small, authentic interactions that make Nashville maternity photos families treasure infinitely more than a simple posed portrait.
Rachel and Tommy’s daughter played a huge role in bringing joy and energy to this session. She is at such a fun age full of movement, wonder, and delight. Whether she was flashing a wide toddler grin, twirling in her dress, or gripping a stick like it was a prized treasure during our outdoor portion, she kept everyone smiling.
Her tiny dress embroidered with “Big Sis” was such a thoughtful touch. Little wardrobe details like that add personalization and storytelling to maternity photography, and they help anchor your images deeper into the season you’re documenting. For families preparing to welcome a sibling, I always encourage parents to include small moments or props that highlight the growing family dynamic, because those end up becoming some of the most sentimental images years later.
After the studio portion, we transitioned to Ellington Agricultural Center, a local favorite for outdoor portraits because of its variety of textures, shaded walkways, sprawling lawns, and pretty architectural elements. The late afternoon light gave us a soft, summery glow, and the combination of natural scenery with the family’s blue and white wardrobe created a timeless and airy aesthetic.
The arched walkway offered a beautiful backdrop as the family walked hand in hand, a candid moment that always photographs so well during maternity sessions. There’s something symbolic about those walking shots, parents guiding their toddler while anticipating the little one still on the way. These images often become some of my clients’ favorites because they feel relaxed, real, and rooted in connection.
Later, among the greenery, big sister explored the grass and trees while I captured some playful portraits. Her carefree joy brought such a natural balance to the quieter, more sentimental maternity shots. Outdoor settings like Ellington always give families space to breathe and be themselves, which helps us capture both posed and spontaneous imagery during a maternity session.
One of my favorite details from this session was the tiny white newborn outfit embroidered with “little brother.” Simple props like this can make maternity portraits even more personal, and they help tell the story of anticipation and love for the baby who’s soon to arrive.
Rachel and Tommy held the outfit together in several images, standing under the tall white columns near the garden, smiling with so much joy and expectation. These moments feel especially meaningful because they echo the sentiment of their first maternity session years ago, creating a beautiful visual connection between children, pregnancy journeys, and evolving family chapters.
One advantage of offering both studio and outdoor experiences in a single session is the ability to provide families with variety and narrative depth in their final gallery.
Studio images feel elegant, minimal, and centered around emotional connection.
Outdoor portraits offer movement, natural light, and a sense of openness.
For many families searching for Nashville maternity photos that feel elevated yet authentic, blending these two environments is the perfect way to create a well-rounded set of images.
Rachel and Tommy’s session flowed beautifully from structured studio portraits to relaxed outdoor moments, resulting in a diverse collection that reflects both their tenderness and their playfulness as a family.
What stood out most during this session was how peaceful and joyful Rachel seemed, radiating the natural emotion maternity sessions so often bring out, from hope to excitement to deep love. Her navy gown complemented the soft tones beautifully and highlighted her bump in a timeless way. Second pregnancies often feel different because parents know more, worry less, and dream differently, and the presence of an older sibling adds an entirely new energy to the moment.
Photographing this session felt like capturing not just anticipation but also gratitude, and watching families grow over time is one of the greatest rewards of this work. Being invited back to document their journey from first pregnancy to parenthood and now to this new chapter has been a true privilege. These images will become part of their family’s visual legacy, something their children will one day cherish as a reminder of how deeply they were loved before they were born.
If you are looking for a way to document your baby’s first year from those early newborn days through their first birthday, my Grow With Me package captures every milestone along the way.

If you’re expecting and beginning to think about Nashville maternity photos your family will love, this session is a beautiful example of what’s possible. Whether you prefer the clean elegance of a studio, the natural beauty of outdoor portraits, or a combination of both, maternity photography is a chance to slow down and savor the season before everything changes.
I work closely with families to choose meaningful locations, craft intentional styling, and create a relaxed environment where genuine connection can shine. Every maternity session is designed not just to document a pregnancy, but to celebrate the love, excitement, and unique story behind it.

Rachel and Tommy’s session was filled with warmth, laughter, meaningful details, and an undeniable sense of joy as they prepare to welcome their little boy. Their daughter’s excitement, the beautiful mix of studio and outdoor settings, and the sweet moments of connection made this a truly memorable day to photograph.
If you’re looking to schedule your own Nashville maternity photos and want images that feel heartfelt, timeless, and personal, I would love to help you create a session you’ll treasure. Every family’s story deserves to be captured beautifully, and I would be honored to tell yours.
