Celebrate Motherhood: Mother’s Day Photo Sessions in Nashville

Family

Mother’s Day is a special day for many families, but I think it can (and should be) an even bigger celebration! As a mom myself, I love a Mother’s Day brunch with my family or a little spa day for myself, but what’s even better (*yes even better than a spa day) is when I get to create new memories with my husband and kids.

I know other moms feel the same, and that’s why Mother’s Day photo sessions in Nashville are a great way to celebrate the day! Whether it’s a gift to mom or something you plan together as a family, a Mother’s Day photoshoot lets you create new memories and capture them for years to come.

Moms do so much every day, and they deserve beautiful photos that commemorate the family they’ve grown and nurtured.

I’m a Nashville family photographer, and here’s everything you need to know for a Mother’s Day photo session!

Celebrate the Beauty of Motherhood

Mother’s Day photo sessions in Nashville are a great way to celebrate the beauty of motherhood–all of the touching moments, smiles, and even the realistic chaos! They’re more than just a way to capture beautiful images—they’re an opportunity to create lasting memories that you’ll treasure for years to come.

As time passes, it’s easy to forget those little details—the way your child’s hand fits perfectly in yours, or the sparkle in your eyes when you look at your family. These moments are fleeting, but a photo freezes time, allowing you to relive those feelings long after the moment has passed.

With my style of family photography, I love capturing posed photos of everyone together, but I also try to capture those special in-between moments. Mom fixing the kids’ hair, everyone laughing at a joke, or even wrangling a little one.

Those moments show what motherhood really looks like, and those are the memories that are so hard to capture without a family photographer.

What to Expect from a Motherhood Session

First things first, Mother’s Day photo sessions are fun! Even if you or your family members are nervous in front of the camera, I can work with you to help you all feel relaxed and comfortable. We’ll always get to know each other first so you can trust that I’ll get the best photos of you and your family.

Before it’s even time for your photo session, I’ll help you prepare ahead of time by picking a location and time that works for everyone, whether that’s an at-home session or at one of the many beautiful places to take photos in Nashville.  I’ll also help you figure out what to wear and what to prepare if you have small kids or pets to think about.

During your photoshoot, I want you and your family to feel completely at ease. I’ll take the lead and guide you into different poses as well as different locations–all the while keeping track of the time and making sure we get all of the photos that you want.

If you have younger kids, don’t worry! I’ll work with them at their pace to make sure they’re comfortable and having fun, too. We’ll make it an enjoyable experience for the whole family, ensuring the photos reflect your unique family dynamic.

If you have a newborn or baby, we’ll let baby take the lead too–there’s plenty of time for breaks if you need to nurse, change the baby, or just take a moment. There’s no pressure to “perform,” just a space for you and your family to be yourselves.

Why Now Is the Perfect Time

If you’ve already been thinking about finally getting some family photos, now is a great time! Not only will it make for an unforgettable Mother’s Day gift, but a spring photoshoot guarantees that you’ll have a gorgeous backdrop for your photos.

Especially for Mother’s Day photo sessions in Nashville, you can count on blooming flowers and not too much heat yeat. I especially love doing spring photoshoots at Cheekwood because it’s the season for Cheekwood in Bloom! That means thousands of tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths are on full display, and the colors are breathtaking.

Styling Tips for Moms

When it comes to preparing for a Mother’s Day photo session, the #1 thing moms tend to worry about is what to wear–both for themselves and the rest of the family.

To make it easy on everyone, here are some styling tips to keep in mind:

  • Let mom choose her outfit first – We want mom to be super comfortable, so she gets first pick in terms of what to wear! From there, it actually makes it easier for everyone else to find coordinating outfits.
  • Focus on coordinating, not matching – Speaking of coordination, I like to make that a priority rather than matching. It can actually make you and your family look even more cohesive and natural.
  • Stick with light, breathable fabrics – Since Mother’s Day is in spring, remember to choose light, breathable fabrics. It thankfully won’t be as hot as summer, but you still don’t want to risk getting too hot and uncomfortable. I recommend cotton and linen!
  • Bring extras just in case – You won’t need to layer your clothes as much in Spring, but I still recommend bringing some extra clothing just in case. Pack light overshirts you can throw on or just other options in case you’re not sure how you’ll feel in your outfit.
  • Accessorize lightly – Accessories are great for photos because it makes your outfit more interesting, but be careful not to go too far! You don’t need to layer on a ton, so be mindful as you’re choosing your outfit.
