Every spring, right before Mother’s Day, I set aside a day to photograph moms with their children here in Middle Tennessee. This year, I had the joy of working with five different families across Franklin and Nashville, and I have been wanting to share a little recap of how special that day was.
If you have ever wondered what a motherhood session looks like, or whether it is something you could do too, this post is for you. Because here is what I want you to know up front: these sessions are for every mom. Not just the ones who feel camera-ready. Not just the ones with matching outfits and perfectly behaved toddlers. Every mom.
When people picture mommy-and-me photos in Nashville, TN, they sometimes imagine something stiff or overly posed. I want it to be the opposite of that.
My goal is for these portraits to feel elevated and refined, the kind of images you are proud to frame and hang in your home. But I also want the day itself to feel approachable and easy. You should be able to show up, be with your kids (or grandkids), and trust that I am paying attention to the light, the moments, and the little in-between connections that make motherhood what it is.
I also try to capture the moments you might not think to ask for: the individual portraits, the pictures with grandma, the close-up of that squishy toddler stage. I am not just showing up for the classic images. I am looking for the ones you did not know you wanted.
I know there are a lot of photographers to choose from in the Nashville and Franklin area, and I never take it for granted when a family decides to spend their time and trust with me.
Here is what I bring to the table. I have had a camera in my hands since 2007, and I have been growing as a family photographer in Middle Tennessee for well over 19 years now. That is a long time of learning families, learning light, and learning how to help people feel at ease in front of the lens. Those years show up in the way I run a session, and in the images you walk away with.
But experience is only part of it. What really shapes my approach is the kind of work I love most. I love working with families who want to honor the family unit. I love working with families who want to honor their mother. And I have a deep soft spot for moms who love the young, messy, beautiful stages of parenting. I know it can feel like you are in the trenches some days. I get it. And I also believe motherhood is such a gift, one worth slowing down and remembering.
When you work with me, I will make sure to capture your motherhood journey. Not a stiff, posed version of it, but the real, warm, connected version that is happening in your home and your arms right now.
The families I connect with most are the ones who value photography and understand how quickly these seasons pass.
Because they do pass. The stage your child is in today, the way they reach for you, the size of their little hands in yours, all of it is fleeting. One of the greatest honors of my job is helping families hold onto those moments before they change. If you are someone who feels that too, who wants to remember not just how your kids looked but how this season of motherhood felt, we are going to work well together.
This year’s motherhood mini session day brought together five families from across the Nashville and Franklin, TN area, and serving each of them was such a gift.
Every family has its own dynamic, its own personalities, and its own version of what motherhood looks like. That is the part I love most. No two sessions felt the same, because no two families are the same. Some moms came with one little one, others with a houseful, and each session reflected the specific love within that family.
I walked away from that day grateful all over again for the work I get to do.
Here is something I want every mom in Middle Tennessee to hear: You do not have to wait for a special event to be photographed with your children.
My motherhood mini session day happens every April, right before Mother’s Day, and it is a wonderful way to dip your toes in if you have never done a session like this before. Also, mini-sessions are a perfect solution if you have littles who need only 5 to 10-minute sessions. But if April does not work for your family, or if you want something longer and more personalized, you can book a full motherhood or family portrait session with me any time of year.
Spring, summer, fall, winter. A studio, a favorite park, somewhere meaningful to you. Whatever season you are in, your motherhood is worth documenting.
If you love the idea of a quick, joyful motherhood session, my mini-session day returns every April before Mother’s Day. You can learn more and get on the list for next year right here: Mommy and Me Photos in Nashville
And if you would rather book a full motherhood portrait session, I would love to photograph you and your children any time of year. You can reach out via my contact page, and we will find a time that works for your family.
You are the one your kids look for in every room. Let’s make sure you are in the photos too.
