Vanderbilt University Graduation Photos in Nashville TN

College Portraits

Graduating from college is one of those milestones that deserves to be remembered well. When Claudia reached out about her Vanderbilt graduation photos in Nashville, TN, I knew we were going to capture something special. She was wrapping up her senior year at Vanderbilt University, and she wanted portraits that honored this huge season of her life before she walked across that stage. Plus, her family was coming in to celebrate this huge milestone graduation event for her, so we wanted to make these photos very special.

Why Claudia Wanted Vanderbilt Graduation Photos

Claudia is a graduating senior at Vanderbilt University, and she wanted to mark this milestone the right way. Four years of hard work were coming to a close, and she didn’t want that to pass by without something to hold onto. A college graduation session was her way of pausing to celebrate everything she had accomplished.

She specifically wanted to feature The Wyatt Center and its steps, which is exactly why we shot there. If you’ve spent any time on Vanderbilt’s campus, you know how beautiful that backdrop is. The architecture and the steps gave us a setting that felt true to her time at Vanderbilt.

The Wyatt Center as the Perfect Backdrop

There’s a reason Claudia chose The Wyatt Center for her Vanderbilt graduation photos in Nashville, TN. The steps gave us so many posing options, and the building itself carries a classic, collegiate feel that makes graduation portraits feel timeless.

We took a large number of college portraits to capture this season of her life. Some were classic and posed, others were a little more relaxed and natural. The goal was to give Claudia a gallery that told the full story of who she is as she closes out her years at Vanderbilt.

Bringing the Black Blazer for Professional Headshots

Here’s something I want every college senior to hear: your graduation session is a chance to do double duty.

Claudia was smart about this. Along with her graduation portraits, she wanted professional headshots she could use moving forward, so she brought a black blazer to change into. That one simple decision meant she walked away with both celebration portraits AND polished, professional headshots for her bios, LinkedIn, and whatever comes next in her career.

If you’re a college student planning your own session, think ahead and use your college portraits wisely. You’re already dressed up, you’re already in front of the camera, and you can use that same time to get headshots you’ll actually use after graduation. It’s one of the easiest ways to make your session work harder for you.

When to Plan Your Vanderbilt Graduation Photos

If you want to think through your college portrait session at Vanderbilt, here’s my biggest piece of advice: plan ahead. I recommend booking your session at least two to three months in advance.

Here’s why the timing matters. College graduation usually happens in May. That means the best window to take your portraits is March or April. Shooting then gives me enough time to get your photos back to you so you can actually use them by graduation. Think graduation announcements, gifts for your loved ones, and prints to share with family before the big day arrives.

When you wait too long, you miss that window. Planning early means your portraits are ready when you need them most.

Claudia’s session was a beautiful reminder of why these milestone portraits matter so much. They celebrate where you’ve been and set you up for where you’re going next.
