If you’ve been reading the blog for the last few weeks, then you know we’re talking about all things Dubsado right now! As a family photographer here in Nashville, I know how important it is to have a workflow for your business – and then to automate that workflow so that you have more time for your business, your clients, and your family. Since we’ve talked so much about WHY automation matters, I want to spend some time today to chat about how you reach that level of automation. In particular, let’s talk about setting up Dubsado and whether or not you should try to DIY that process or have a Dubsado expert help you.
Now that you’ve established your business and you’re ready to move beyond the hobby stage, it’s important to take all aspects of your business seriously. As you move into that full business realm, the reality of running your own business might sink in. You’re handling all aspects of your client experience – inquiries, sending forms, sending invoices, getting paid, sending reminders. It’s all on your shoulders. And if you’re trying to run things alone, it can get overwhelming. There’s no shame in that. We aren’t wizards, after all!
When you reach a point in your business where you begin to feel like you might be in over your head, it’s time to automate. And frankly, in an ideal world, you’d consider automating before you get to that point (wink, wink!). But, I digress. If you’re ready to speed up your workflows and get some of that work off your plate on a regular basis, you need to get your CRM set up and automate that workflow.
If that’s freaking you out, take a deep breath. I get it: when you first log into Dubsado, it can feel overwhelming if you don’t know what to do.
That’s where a Dubsado expert (like myself) comes in. But, let’s back up for a second.
Here’s the heart of the matter: knowing whether this automation setup is something you feel comfortable doing yourself or if you should hire it out.
You should DIY your setup if…
If you’re someone who’s very familiar with Dubsado (or similar CRMs) or if you’re generally tech-savvy, then I’d say you could DIY the process. I think it’s also important that you consider exactly how much time you have available to dedicate to this process. These setups require time and attention, so think seriously about that one.

You should hire someone to DFY if…
You have no idea what Dubsado is even capable of beyond a basic level. If technology or CRMs aren’t your thing, absolutely hire someone to help you! It will be much easier to take advantage of all of the good parts of Dubsado if you actually know they exist. If you’re short on time, you should absolutely hire out. My VIP clients have me working on their software for 2 weeks. If you don’t have big chunks of time to dedicate to setting up your workflows and automation, let someone else do it for you!
